Most problems have a quick fix below. If yours is not here, email us — a person reads every message.

Around seventy answers covering the web app, the extensions, Kindle, the mobile apps, plans and billing — including the how-do-I questions this page does not try to hold. Written in English.

Step-by-step guides for the failures that need more than a paragraph — installation, sign-in, and sync. Written in English.

Highlighting

Highlighting does not work on a page

Reload the page first — the extension has to be running before the page finishes loading. If that does not help, the site may be on our disabled domains list, or it may block extensions outright. Text drawn inside a canvas or a cross-origin iframe cannot be highlighted at all; that is a browser limitation rather than a setting.

Why Glasp is switched off on some sites

Glasp does not run where a highlight could expose something private: online banking, sign-in and SSO pages, password managers, tax and immigration portals, health records, and adult sites. It is also off on your own network — router and NAS pages, 192.168.x.x addresses, .local names. Public pages a government or health service published for people to read are NOT in that category; if one is blocked, that is a bug and we want the URL.

The extension says I am signed out, but I am not

Reload the extension from your browser's extensions page. You should not need to sign in again. Older Safari builds had a bug that showed this state permanently — it is fixed, so make sure you are on the current version.

A highlight is missing from glasp.co

Highlights sync while you are signed in and online. Open the extension popup and check it is the same account you use on the web. If the highlight is in the extension but not on the site after a reload, email us the page URL and we will look at that document directly.

Highlighting a PDF

PDFs are highlighted in the browser, the same way web pages are — see the PDF highlighter page. Two cases genuinely cannot work: a scanned PDF is a picture of text rather than text, so there is nothing to select; and a PDF that opens in a separate desktop application never reaches the extension at all.

YouTube Summary

No transcript is available for a video

Summaries are built from the video's transcript. If the creator disabled captions and YouTube has not auto-generated any, there is nothing to summarize. Live streams also have no transcript until they finish processing.

The summary came back in the wrong language

Set your output language in the extension settings. If it still comes back in the video's language, tell us the video URL and the language you expected — we track these, and the cause is usually specific to a video.

Long videos are cut short or time-stamps look wrong

Very long videos are summarized in sections. If time-stamps do not line up with what you see, send us the URL; this is the kind of report we act on directly.

Kindle

Kindle highlights are not showing up

Kindle highlights are imported, not synced live — run the import again after you have been reading. They exist only for books bought from Amazon and read on a Kindle device or app, and Amazon caps how much of any one book can be exported, so a long book may come across incomplete. That cap is Amazon's, not ours.

Books not bought from Amazon

Upload the device's My Clippings.txt file directly, or convert it first with the clippings converter. That file holds everything you highlighted on the device, including side-loaded books.

Getting Kindle highlights into your notes app

Kindle highlights export the same way everything else does — Notion, Obsidian, Readwise, Markdown and the rest. The FAQ has step-by-step guides per destination, including Daily Kindle Review.

Import and export

Bringing highlights in from another app

Settings, Integrations imports from Kindle, Readwise, Matter, Medium, Instapaper, Hypothesis, Raindrop.io, Weava, Diigo, Wallabag, Airtable, Pocket, and Snipd — plus any CSV file, with a column mapper for exports that do not match a known shape. Pocket shut down in July 2025, so that importer works with an export file you downloaded before it closed.

Getting your highlights out

Glasp exports to Notion, Obsidian, Readwise, Roam, Zotero, Tana, Workflowy, and Anki, as well as Markdown and CSV. Export is not a paid feature — your highlights are yours, and we would rather you could leave than feel stuck.

Using your highlights inside an AI assistant

The MCP connector gives Claude, ChatGPT, and other MCP clients read-only access to your own library, with a link back to the source of every passage.

Apps and browsers

Which browsers and platforms are supported

The Glasp Web Highlighter is published for Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox, and installs on other Chromium browsers such as Brave and Opera from the Chrome Web Store. YouTube Summary covers Chrome, Edge, and Firefox; the ChatGPT extension is Chrome only. There are iOS and Android apps as well — see the mobile app page.

On a phone, where the extension cannot go

Phone browsers do not run extensions, so the mobile app has its own reader: open a page in it and highlight there. Sharing a link to Glasp from any app opens the same reader. Everything you highlight lands in the same library as the desktop extension.

Settings or highlights disappeared after an update

This should not happen, and if it does we want to know. Send us your account email and roughly when you noticed — highlights live on the server, so what looks like data loss is usually a local state problem we can walk you through.

Plans and billing

Cancelling or changing your plan

Settings, Manage Subscription. Cancelling keeps your account and every highlight in it; it only ends the paid features when the billing period does. See pricing for what a paid plan includes.

Receipts, billing email, and student discounts

Receipts and the billing email address are both handled in Settings, Manage Subscription. A student discount is available — the FAQ covers how to claim it, including what to do when your university does not use Google Workspace.

A payment failed and features switched off

Update the card in Settings, Manage Subscription and the plan resumes; nothing is deleted while a payment is outstanding. If the charge keeps failing and your bank shows no reason, email us the account address — we can see the decline reason from our side and tell you what the bank objected to.

Privacy, account, and your data

Who can see what you highlight

Highlights are private to you unless you choose to make them public. Glasp never runs at all on the excluded categories above, so those pages produce nothing to share in the first place.

Deleting your account and data

Settings has a Delete Account option that removes your highlights, bookmarks, summaries, and profile. Export first if you want to keep anything — deletion cannot be undone.

What we store, and for how long

Our privacy policy covers what is collected, how long it is kept, and how to have it removed. The terms of service cover the rest.

Still stuck?

[email protected] Email us. Including these makes it far more likely we fix it on the first reply instead of asking you questions:

  • The email address on your Glasp account
  • Which product — the Glasp extension, YouTube Summary, the mobile app, or the website
  • Your browser or device, and the extension version
  • The page URL where it happened, if there is one
  • What you expected, and what happened instead

In the mobile app, More → Contact Us fills in your version and device already.

Write in any language you like. We answer in English, and we would rather have your exact words than a translation of them.
