Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) was a Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, stage designer, poet, and playwright. He is considered to be one of the most famous painters in the twentieth century and one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. Picasso was born in Malaga, Spain on October 20, 1881, and spent most of his adult life in France. He is known for co-founding the Cubist movement, the invention of constructed sculpture, the co-invention of collage, and for the wide variety of styles that he helped develop and explore. Picasso's work includes over 20,000 paintings, prints, drawings, sculptures, ceramics, theater sets, and costumes that convey myriad intellectual, political, social, and amorous messages.
