A free browser extension that summarizes YouTube videos, web articles and PDFs with ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Mistral. Its Chat tab answers questions about the video, article or PDF you're on. On YouTube it puts the summary and the full transcript beside the video — timestamps you can click, a transcript you can copy or highlight, and exports to Notion, Obsidian and Markdown. With a free Glasp account, this page shows the transcript, no install: paste the link above.

Three steps
How to summarize a YouTube video
01
Add the extension and open a video
Install YouTube Summary on Chrome, Edge or Firefox, then open any YouTube video. The summary widget appears beside the player.
02
Pick a model and read the summary
Choose ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Mistral and get the key points in seconds — with timestamps you can click to jump to that moment.
03
Read, copy or highlight the transcript
The full transcript sits beside the video in the language you choose. Copy it in one click, or highlight the lines worth keeping and export them to Notion, Obsidian or Markdown.
Chat
Chat with what you read and watch
Chat isn't only for YouTube. On an article, a newsletter post or a PDF on the web, click the extension's icon and ask about the page in your own words; the answer arrives in a panel on the side of the page.
Real answers from the extension's Chat, recorded on Glasp's own pages and shown at the speed they arrived. The typing is sped up, and the layout, labels and yellow marks are the video's.
Articles
Ask for the other side before you take a claim at its word.
PDFs on the web
Get a dense paper in plain words, then ask what a term means. Not in Firefox, which opens PDFs in its own viewer.
Newsletter posts
Draft a comment to leave under the post, with a question for the author.
YouTube videos
Answers cite timestamps from the transcript, so you can check them against the video.
Chat needs a free Glasp account. The Free plan includes 20 Chat credits a month, one per question; paid plans add more credits and the Balanced and Deep models.
The Glasp app puts a YouTube video's transcript, summary and chat in one place.

Summarize with ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Mistral
Pick the model, the length and the number of key points. The summary comes back in seconds, in the language you choose — not necessarily the one the video is in.

Timestamps on the page, while the video plays
The on-page summary is timestamped. Click a key point and the player jumps to that second, so a 45-minute talk can be checked in five.
The full transcript, in the language you choose
Read along beside the video or copy the whole transcript in one click, timestamps included. Available in every language YouTube has captions for.
Highlight the transcript and keep it
Highlight lines of the transcript, add a note, and export to Notion, Obsidian, Roam Research or mem.ai — or download as Markdown, HTML, CSV or JSON.
Articles and PDFs, the same button
The same extension summarizes web articles and PDFs, so one install covers what you read as well as what you watch.

A free browser extension that uses ChatGPT and Claude to summarize YouTube videos, so you can get the key points without watching the whole thing. You choose the length of the summary and how many key points to show, with or without timestamps.
Is YouTube Summary free to use?
Yes, within limits. On the free plan the extension writes 3 summaries beside the video every 7 days (a pool shared with article and PDF summaries), sends 3 videos a day to ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini for a summary in a new tab, and copies or downloads 5 transcripts a day. Paid plans, from $15 a month or $150 a year, remove the daily caps and allow 1,000 summaries from that pool every 30 days on Pro, or 5,000 on Unlimited.
Is there a free YouTube summarizer without sign-up?
Yes, the extension: without a Glasp account it sends 2 videos a day to ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini for a summary in a new tab and shows the transcript beside the video. The box at the top of this page and the summaries written beside the video need a free Glasp account, which also raises the new-tab summaries to 3 a day.
Can AI summarize a 2-hour YouTube video?
Yes. Long lectures, podcasts and interviews are handled the same way: the whole transcript is processed and the summary carries timestamps so you can jump to the moments that matter.
Can I chat with a video, an article or a PDF?
Yes. On a web article, a newsletter post or a PDF online, click the extension's icon (on the toolbar, or in the Extensions menu until you pin it) and the panel opens on Chat; on a YouTube video, pick Chat in the panel beside the player. Then ask in your own words. On a video, answers cite timestamps from the transcript so you can check them. If you highlighted the page with Glasp, answers build on your highlights and notes too. Firefox is the exception for PDFs: it opens them in its own viewer, where extensions can't run. Chat needs a free Glasp account, and the Free plan includes 20 Chat credits a month.
How do I get a YouTube transcript with timestamps?
Open a video with the extension installed and click the transcript icon. The full transcript appears beside the video with clickable timestamps, and one click copies all of it. The transcript extractor on this site does the same without an install, with a free Glasp account.
Which browsers does it work in?
Chrome, Edge and Firefox have their own listings; Brave and Opera install the Chrome build. In Safari, the Glasp extension for Safari summarizes YouTube videos too, and on your phone the Glasp app has its own YouTube reader.
Can I choose the length and language of the summary?
Yes. Set the length and the number of key points in the extension, and pick the summary language independently of the language spoken in the video.
Can I save and highlight the transcript?
Yes. Highlight lines of the transcript, add notes, and export them to Notion, Obsidian, Roam Research and mem.ai, or download as Markdown, HTML, CSV or JSON.
