In contrast, the popularity of Facebook among teens has plummeted, with only 32% using it today, compared to 71% in previous years.

The rise of TikTok cannot be overlooked, with 67% of teens reporting its use. In fact, 16% of all teens claim to use TikTok almost constantly, highlighting its addictive nature. Other platforms like Twitter and Tumblr have seen a decline in teen usage, while some platforms, such as Vine and Google+, have ceased to exist altogether.

Interestingly, there are gender differences in teen social media preferences. Teen boys tend to gravitate towards YouTube, Twitch, and Reddit, while teen girls are more likely to use TikTok, Instagram, and Snapchat. The survey also revealed that a majority of U.S. teens feel they spend an appropriate amount of time on social media platforms, with 55% believing it to be the right balance. However, 36% of teens feel they spend too much time on these platforms, indicating a need for mindful consumption.
