How to Export Highlights and Notes into Tana

Do you use Tana to organize your thinking with supertags and daily notes? With Glasp's new Tana Export integration, you can send your web highlights and notes directly into your Tana workspace, so the insights you collect while reading become part of your knowledge base without any copying and pasting.

In this tutorial, you'll learn step by step how to connect Glasp to Tana, run your first export, and keep new highlights syncing automatically. One thing to know before you start: the integration uses a Tana Workspace Token, which requires a paid Tana plan.

Step 1: Open the Tana Export card

Go to the Settings page on Glasp and click Integrations in the left sidebar. Open the Export tab, find Tana Export, and click it. It opens the Tana modal.

Step 2: Create a Workspace Token in Tana

In this step, you need a Tana Workspace Token. Please note that a Personal Token won't work, and creating a Workspace Token requires a paid Tana plan.

Go to app.tana.inc, click your profile icon at the top right, and select API Tokens.

Open the Workspace Tokens tab, select the workspace you want to export to, and click Create token. Then click Copy to copy the token. Please don't share the token anywhere.

Step 3: Paste the token and connect

Back in the Glasp modal, paste the token into the Tana API token field and click Connect.

Step 4: Send a 3-page test, then export everything

After connecting, the modal shows a Connected badge with your export options.

Tana can't verify the token until the first export actually runs. So, please click 3-page test first. It sends three pages to your workspace so you can check that everything works. Once the test looks good, click Export All Highlights to send your whole library.

If you run the export again later, Glasp only sends the pages that changed since the last export, so you don't have to worry about duplicates.

Step 5: Find your highlights in Tana and turn on Daily Sync

Your exports land in Tana's Workspace Inbox. Each article becomes one node, with your highlights as child nodes. The Workspace Inbox is hidden from Tana's sidebar, so open it with Cmd+K and search for "Workspace Inbox".

To keep things hands-free going forward, turn on the Daily Sync toggle in the Glasp modal. It exports your new highlights to Tana automatically once a day.

Q. Do I need a paid Tana plan to use this integration?

Yes. The integration requires a Workspace Token, and creating one is a paid feature in Tana.

Q. Can I use a Personal Token instead of a Workspace Token?

No. Personal Tokens won't work with this integration. Please create a Workspace Token from API Tokens, then the Workspace Tokens tab in Tana.

Q. Where do my highlights appear in Tana?

In the Workspace Inbox of the workspace you created the token for. Each page becomes one node with your highlights as child nodes. The Workspace Inbox doesn't appear in Tana's sidebar, so open it with Cmd+K and search for "Workspace Inbox".

Q. Does Glasp export to Tana automatically?

Yes, if you turn on the Daily Sync toggle. Glasp then exports your new highlights to Tana once a day. If you leave it off, you can export manually with Export All Highlights anytime.

Q. What happens if I export again? Will I get duplicates?

No. Re-runs only send the pages that changed since the last export.

Q. How do I disconnect Tana from Glasp?

Open the Tana Export modal in Settings → Integrations → Export and click Disconnect.
