Blockbuster Booster: Easily Create Short Form Video Clips To Rise Above The Noise Of The Internet
Short form video clipping can bring new opportunities into the creator/curator economy. I’m now convinced that curating short form video presents one of the best opportunities for thought leaders that has existed in the last 10 years.
Editing video is way easier than you think. Social media algorithms love short form videos. Short form video is a limited-time opportunity. Short form video is engaging to consume.
Editing video with Streamlabs’s tool is like editing text in a word processor. For example, to edit the video below, I just edit the text on the left and then the video on the right automatically updates. More specifically, if I delete a word from the transcript, it automatically clips that part of the video. If I edit the spelling of a word in the transcript, it updates the subtitle in the video.
This concept of curating short form videos is similar to highlighting or clipping text on the web. It allows us to capture the best ideas and present them in a concise and engaging format.
In 2020, the two other big social media platforms (YouTube and Instagram) copied TikTok and made short form videos a key part of their algorithm. In other words, they gave a boost in newsfeed reach to short form video and decreased the reach of other formats accordingly. This shows that once something unique works, others quickly adopt it, making it crowded. However, the advantage of short form videos lies in its ability to cut out all the fluff and get right to the most interesting and important part.
As thought leaders, we can use this format to our advantage. Instead of producing our own videos, we can curate the best ideas of experts and skip years of trial-and-error. Clipping videos is easier than producing your own, and it allows us to take advantage of the Celebrity Effect. By leveraging other people's celebrity, we can gain traction and increase our reach.
Clipping videos also helps us support our ideas. We can think of each video that someone else has posted as an experiment, and YouTube becomes a platform that reveals the results of all these experiments publicly. This perspective allows us to learn from the successes and failures of others and refine our own ideas.
Now, let's explore the early days of AI. Rather than viewing LLMs, Transformers, and diffusion models as part of a continuum with past "AI," it is worth thinking of this as an entirely new era and discontinuity from the past. The value in prior AI waves went largely to incumbents over startups, as the capabilities were not advanced enough to create new market openings.
When many business people talk about "AI" today, they treat it as a continuum with past capabilities of the CNN/RNN/GAN world. In reality, it is a step function in new capabilities and products enabled, marking the dawn of a new era of tech.
ChatGPT's launch was the starting gun for mainstreaming that AI is a big deal in terms of new capabilities. However, we are still far from peak AI usage or peak AI hype. Given the long planning cycles of large enterprises, it will still take time for AI to reach its full potential.
In these early days, there are likely at least four waves of AI to consider. The first wave consists of GenAI native companies that have gained significant revenue and user traction. The second wave includes early startup adopters and fast mid-market incumbents who have launched AI-powered products. The third wave, coming soon, will bring new startups founded on top of advanced AI models, exploring new formats and verticals. Finally, the fourth wave, expected in 2024/2025, will see the adoption of AI by big enterprises.
Google's MedPaLM2 model, for instance, outperforms human physicians to such a strong degree that having medical experts review, label, and fine-tune the model actually makes it worse. This showcases the immense potential of AI in various fields, including healthcare.
In conclusion, the combination of short form video clipping and the advancements in AI presents exciting opportunities for thought leaders. By curating the best ideas in video format and leveraging the power of AI, we can rise above the noise of the internet and reach a wider audience.
Actionable advice:
- 1. Start curating short form videos by using editing tools like Streamlabs to clip the most interesting and important parts.
- 2. Explore the potential of AI in your industry and consider how it can enhance your ideas and content.
- 3. Learn from the successes and failures of others by treating each video as an experiment and refining your own ideas based on the results.
By incorporating these strategies into your content creation process, you can boost your visibility and establish yourself as a thought leader in your field. Embrace the power of short form video and AI, and rise above the noise of the internet.
