In the realm of AI language models (LLMs), Google has set the bar high with its PaLM (Pre-training a Language Model) model. PaLM, with its 540 billion parameters, is on par with some of the largest LLMs available, such as OpenAI's GPT-3, DeepMind's Gopher and Chinchilla, and Microsoft-Nvidia's Megatron-Turing NLG. The efficiency of the training process and the training dataset used play crucial roles in the performance of LLMs. PaLM utilizes a standard Transformer model architecture, with customizations and a diverse training dataset consisting of filtered multilingual web pages, books, Wikipedia articles, news articles, source code, and social media conversations. This comprehensive dataset allows PaLM to outperform previous LLMs on various tasks.
