Embrace Your Inner Child: Why I Quit my 9 to 5 — Snow Huo
"Is this how you are going to spend the rest of your life? Have you tried your best to figure out who you are and why you exist?" Life is short. I know people always say that, but I never understood what that meant until now. An average human only lives 30,000 days, a tiny fraction (0.0000006%) of the current lifespan of the universe. If we deduct the days we spent with our parents before college and deduct sleeping, eating, and exercising, we are only left with 10,400 days. That's only 28 years. Have you ever thought about if there were only 28 years left in your life, how would you spend them?
But what does it really mean to embrace your inner child? It means reconnecting with the things that truly bring you joy and fulfillment. It means tapping into your innate creativity and curiosity. It means living life on your own terms and pursuing your passions without fear or hesitation.
Money is not the most important asset in life. Time is. Money can be earned back, but time is the one thing that can never be retrieved. Many of us have been conditioned to believe that success is measured by the size of our bank accounts and the prestige of our job titles. We sacrifice our time and our happiness in pursuit of these external validations. But is it worth it?
I thought that's what I had to sacrifice in order to become "successful". I have no doubt that there are many people who do thrive in this lifestyle and are able to create a huge impact, but I started to realize that it's not who I am and it doesn't make me feel fulfilled. I found myself longing for the simplicity and joy I felt as a child, when the world was full of endless possibilities and my imagination knew no bounds.
I remember a conversation with a friend who had always been passionate about art and creativity. She hasn't changed much over the years. I see the sparkles in her eyes when she works on creating something meaningful that helps people or makes people happy. She told me that there's no perfect timing. Life is too short to work on someone else's dream. Pay attention to your inner child, for your inner child knows you best.
If you only have 28 years on earth, how would you spend this time? How do you want people to remember you? What are the things that if you don't do, you'd feel regretful on your deathbed?
It's easy to get caught up in the expectations and pressures of society, but we must remember that we have the power to choose our own path. We have the power to prioritize our own happiness and well-being. We have the power to embrace our inner child and live a life filled with passion and purpose.
One way to do this is by exploring alternative career paths that align with our passions and interests. This could mean quitting a job that no longer fulfills us and taking the leap into a new industry or starting our own business. It may be scary and uncertain, but the rewards can be immeasurable.
Another way to embrace our inner child is by making time for the things that bring us joy. Whether it's painting, dancing, writing, or playing an instrument, these creative outlets allow us to tap into our true selves and express our unique perspectives. It's important to carve out dedicated time for these activities, even if it's just a few minutes each day.
Lastly, we must surround ourselves with people who support and encourage our journey. It can be challenging to break free from the expectations of others, but having a strong support system makes all the difference. Find your tribe, whether it's through joining communities or seeking out like-minded individuals, and lean on them for guidance and inspiration.
In conclusion, embracing our inner child is about living life authentically and unapologetically. It's about prioritizing our own happiness and well-being. It's about taking risks and pursuing our passions with unwavering determination. Life is short, and we owe it to ourselves to make the most of the time we have.
So, let's embrace our inner child, follow our hearts, and create a life that we're proud to look back on. Remember, we only have 28 years on this earth. Let's make them count.
