Glasp’s Note: Please be aware that sharing or publishing the full transcript of someone else’s YouTube video may violate YouTube’s policy or copyright law. To stay safe, we recommend either creating articles from your own videos or ensuring that your use qualifies as transformative use (e.g., commentary, critique, or educational purposes).

Step 1: Install the Glasp or YouTube Summary extension

Please install the Glasp extension or YouTube Summary extension. Both extensions have a feature to get YouTube video’s transcripts and summaries, but if you’d like to highlight transcripts for future reference, please install the Glasp extension.

Step 2: Open a YouTube video

Open a YouTube video of your choice. You’ll see the Glasp or YouTube Summary widget displayed in the top-right corner.

Click the down arrow button to expand the options.

Step 3: Copy the transcript

You’ll now see the full transcript of the YouTube video. Click the “Copy transcript (Plain text)” button on the widget. This will copy the entire transcript to your clipboard.

Step 4: Open an AI tool

Next, open the AI tool of your choice. For this tutorial, we’ll be using ChatGPT. Then, paste the transcript you copied into the chat.

Step 5: Type a prompt

Type a prompt based on the type of article you’d like to create.

Here are some example prompts.

For articles:

This is the transcript of the YouTube video. Turn it into a well-structured blog article. Add a clear introduction, organize the main ideas into sections with headings, and finish with key takeaways. Write in an engaging, professional tone, with a length of around 1,000 words.

This is the transcript of the YouTube video. From this transcript, write an article that highlights practical takeaways for AI engineers, startup founders, and learners. Present the advice as bullet points with short explanations. The word count should be between 1,000 and 1,500 words.

For X post:

This is the transcript of the YouTube video. From this transcript, create an X post that highlights 5–7 key insights. Write in a concise, engaging style that encourages people to share and comment.

This is the transcript of the YouTube video. Summarize it into an X post thread (7–10 tweets). Each tweet should cover one insight, written in clear, engaging language. Start with a hook tweet and end with a conclusion tweet.

Tweak the prompts and use follow-up prompts to get the response you want.

Step 6: Copy the response and publish your post

Once you’ve created a response, copy and paste it to any platform where you’d like to publish.

In this tutorial, we’ll be using Glasp’s Post feature.

Publish the post if it looks good.

Glasp’s Note: Please be aware that sharing or publishing the full transcript of someone else’s YouTube video may violate YouTube’s policy or copyright law. FAQs

Q. Do I need to use both Glasp and YouTube Summary, or is one enough?

You can use either extension. Both allow you to extract transcripts and summaries. If you want to highlight and save transcripts for future reference, Glasp is recommended. If you only want quick transcripts and summaries, YouTube Summary works fine.

Q. Can I use other AI tools besides ChatGPT?

Yes. You can use Claude, Gemini, or any other AI writing tool. The process is the same—paste the transcript and provide a clear prompt.

Q. How long should my final article be?

It depends on your goal. For blog articles, aim for 1,000–1,500 words. For X posts, keep it concise (1–2 short paragraphs or a thread of tweets).

Q. How do I make the AI’s response more accurate?

If the first response isn’t perfect, tweak your prompt or ask follow-up questions. For example, “Make this article more concise” or “Rewrite this in a more professional tone.”

Q. Can I edit the AI-generated response before publishing?

Absolutely. In fact, it’s recommended to add your own voice and perspective before publishing. AI gives you a strong draft, but your unique input makes it authentic.

Q. Do I have to publish on Glasp Post?

No. We used Glasp Post in this tutorial, but you can publish your content anywhere—such as Medium, LinkedIn, Substack, or X (Twitter).

Q. Will this method work for all YouTube videos?

Yes, but results are best with insightful or educational videos where there are clear takeaways and lessons. Entertainment videos may not provide as much useful content for articles.
