The second instruction reduces both ambiguity and the fear that the work will consume the day.

Next, separate intensity from duration. A ninety minute session can be demanding without pretending that concentration is infinite. Build a stopping point before you begin. This makes it easier to work with commitment because the mind knows what it is agreeing to.

Then examine the path of your attention. Keep a simple log for several days. Record what you worked on, when your focus improved, what repeatedly interrupted it, and how you felt afterward. Do not use the log to judge yourself. Use it as an energy map. You may discover that your most important work is scheduled during your weakest hours, or that one recurring meeting drains more attention than several hours of ordinary tasks.

Finally, treat relationships and environments as part of your productivity system. Ask which people make you feel more capable of beginning. Notice which spaces make it easier to stay with one thing.
