But what does it mean to be a good person? Is it about achieving success, accumulating wealth, or leaving a lasting legacy? While these things can certainly be part of it, I believe that being a good person goes beyond material possessions and external accomplishments. It is about the way we live our lives, the values we uphold, and the impact we have on others.

In my conversation with Kazuki Nakayashiki, co-founder of Glasp, we discussed the concept of building a digital legacy. According to Kazuki, one of the most noble pursuits is for people to learn, experience, and pass their knowledge on to future generations. This idea of leaving a courageous life and weaving our knowledge, wisdom, and history for the next generation resonated deeply with me.
When we talk about legacy, it is not just about leaving behind a successful business or a lot of money. While these things can be desirable, not everyone has the opportunity to achieve them. Instead, the greatest legacy lies in our attitude towards life. It is about facing difficulties with courage, maintaining optimism in the face of adversity, and believing in the possibilities and hopes of humanity.
Through Glasp, Kazuki and his team aim to democratize access to other people's learning and experiences. They believe that by sharing and weaving our knowledge, we can create a lasting impact on future generations. While it may be subjective whether what we leave behind is truly useful to others, Kazuki believes that even the smallest insights or questions can become valuable to someone, just as Fermat's Last Theorem originated from a note written in the margin of a book.
To achieve their mission, Glasp focuses on the overlap between curation, knowledge management, and community. They believe that having learning partners can enhance the learning process, making it more inspiring and fun. The social nature of Glasp allows content writers to connect directly with their audiences, receive feedback, and find inspiration for future posts. By creating a platform that allows the next generation to build and access knowledge based on their interests, Glasp aims to break the barriers of time and create a repository of valuable information.
One aspect that stood out to me in my conversation with Kazuki is the importance of having a long-term mission and vision. By treating their mission as a North Star, Glasp strengthens their team and nurtures their company's culture. This dedication to their mission guides all their decisions, including product design.
While Kazuki takes the lead in designing the user interface, he acknowledges that he is not an expert in design. He welcomes feedback and ideas from others, recognizing that collaboration and diverse perspectives can lead to better outcomes. This humility and openness to learning from others is a testament to his commitment to continuous improvement and growth.
