Convergent thinking is the thinking style where various alternatives are analyzed and evaluated to ultimately select the most appropriate solution from multiple ideas.

Urban (1995) also stated that the factors of creativity lead to creative problem-solving through dynamic connections among them, and this process should consider various personal, procedural, and situational factors. In the process of creative problem-solving, divergent thinking and convergent thinking are necessary as defining elements. Creative problem-solving ability is the ability to use the knowledge, concepts, principles, and thinking strategies that individuals already possess to solve problems in new ways. Ultimately, creativity is the process of producing something novel and useful based on individual or group characteristics through a creative process, which includes divergent thinking based on knowledge and convergent thinking using thinking skills to find and make decisions for problem-solving methods.

We often find ourselves struggling to come up with a solution to a problem, feeling stuck and unable to think of any new ideas. At times like this, it is common to either give up on thinking further or take a break and rest. However, when we return to the original problem after an hour, a day, or even a week, suddenly everything becomes clear, and we can easily find a solution. This phenomenon is known as the incubation effect, which was included as one of the stages of creative thinking by Graham Wallas, a British social psychologist and educator, in 1926. Wallas proposed that creative thinking occurs through four stages: preparation, incubation, illumination or insight, and verification. First, after the preparation stage, it is necessary to go through a sufficient incubation stage without any conscious effort to solve the problem. Only then can we experience the "aha!" moment of insight. Giving ourselves time to incubate means giving ourselves the opportunity to think differently about the problem and break away from rigid thinking patterns. When finding it difficult to find a solution to a problem, instead of holding onto the problem blindly, taking a moment to set the problem aside and giving ourselves a break can be an effective way to solve the problem.
