This is why taking breaks, sleeping, or engaging in relaxation activities can enhance our learning and memory.
So how can we apply these insights to our own reading habits? First and foremost, we need to embrace the power of slow-reading. Instead of rushing through texts, take the time to engage with the content and make connections to your existing knowledge. Allow yourself to fully comprehend and absorb the information presented.
In addition, practice metacognition while reading. Ask yourself questions, have internal conversations, and consciously regulate your learning process. By actively thinking about your thinking, you can enhance your understanding and retention of the material.
Finally, make sure to give yourself time for consolidation. Take breaks between reading sessions, allow your brain to rest and process the information subconsciously. This will enable the transfer of knowledge from short-term to long-term memory, ensuring that you can utilize this knowledge in the future.
