"Why I’m Building Glasp? - ゲームに学ぶUXデザイン 「楽しさ」を生み出す技術と工夫"
I remember thinking that I wanted to be of use to the world through a steady way of life like my grandfather. I was struck by the desire to prove that I existed in this world and that my life had meaning, and the urge to leave something useful behind for the world while I was still alive. while many things change over time, one thing remains the same. That is human nature, that we want to leave something good behind for future generations.
Of the tens of billions of people who have existed in human history, only a handful have survived in the form of books and traditions. “Why can’t we learn effectively from the experiences of others?” As Bismarck said, “Only a fool learns from his own mistakes. The wise man learns from the mistakes of others.” It would be of great value to humanity and to all life on earth if the trajectory of experience that someone has followed throughout their life, especially the important parts of it, could be inherited and developed by the next person who takes the same path.
“Creating a system that allows everyone to share and develop their learnings as their legacy in a natural way” Through Glasp and my life, I want to “democratize access to other people’s learning and experiences that they have collected throughout their lives as a utilitarian legacy.” Mahatma Gandhi said, “My life is my message.” Let’s make your message visible and accessible to other people.
UX, or User Experience, is about perception and response. UX is not just about the experience while using something, but rather about the overall experience. In cognitive psychology, it is said that humans unconsciously repeat the cycle of perception and response with each step of a task. Response refers to changes in emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. Although it is done unconsciously, it seems that humans are constantly repeating this cycle.
"Activities to enhance brand value" are UX design. The knowledge system that controls human behavior is called behavioral economics or "nudge". The first step is to write down the ideal experience you want to provide, the ideal situation, the ideal behavior, and the ideal psychology. From there, deepen your thoughts on what touchpoints you need to be to provide the desired experience, the performance you need to have, and the functions you need to have. This process is called "writing the ideal scenario."
The uniqueness of UX design in games lies in the concept of "fun". But what is "fun"? "Fun" is a subjective experience that can vary from person to person. It is a feeling of enjoyment, pleasure, or amusement that can be derived from various activities. In the context of game design, "fun" refers to the positive emotions and engagement that players experience while playing a game. It is the driving force that motivates players to continue playing and provides a sense of satisfaction and fulfillment.
Incorporating the principles of UX design into game development can greatly enhance the overall experience for players. By understanding the psychology and behavior of players, game designers can create immersive and engaging experiences that keep players coming back for more. This can be achieved through various techniques such as creating clear goals and objectives, providing meaningful feedback, and offering rewards and incentives.
Now, let's connect the dots between building Glasp and learning from games. The concept of democratizing access to other people's learning and experiences aligns with the idea of enhancing the overall experience for players in games. Just as game designers strive to create enjoyable and engaging experiences, Glasp aims to provide a platform where individuals can easily share and develop their learnings and experiences.
So, how can we apply the principles of UX design in our everyday lives and work? Here are three actionable pieces of advice:
-
Understand the needs and desires of your audience: Just as game designers study the preferences and behaviors of players, it is important to understand the needs and desires of your target audience. By empathizing with their perspective, you can tailor your experiences or products to meet their expectations and provide a more satisfying outcome.
-
Provide clear goals and feedback: In games, players are often provided with clear objectives and feedback on their progress. This keeps them engaged and motivated to continue playing. Similarly, in any task or project, setting clear goals and providing feedback along the way can enhance the overall experience and drive individuals to achieve better results.
-
Continuously iterate and improve: Game developers constantly iterate and improve their designs based on player feedback and data. Similarly, in our own lives and work, it is important to embrace a growth mindset and be open to feedback and improvement. By continuously learning and adapting, we can enhance our own experiences and make meaningful progress towards our goals.
In conclusion, the concept of democratizing access to learning and experiences, as well as the principles of UX design in games, can greatly impact our lives and work. By understanding the importance of leaving a meaningful legacy and incorporating the principles of UX design, we can create more enjoyable and fulfilling experiences for ourselves and others. Let's embrace the power of sharing and learning from each other to make a positive impact on the world.
