As a junior from Marietta, Georgia, I, Liz Benecchi, have found my academic and personal journey profoundly enriched by my involvement with various coalitions at the Institute of Politics (IOP). Each of these coalitions offers a unique lens through which we can examine critical societal issues, fostering an environment where creativity, athleticism, inclusivity, environmental consciousness, and civic engagement converge.

The Coalition for the Arts stands out as a dynamic space where the realms of artistry and political discourse collide. By inviting artists and changemakers to share their experiences, the coalition opens up discussions about how art can serve as a powerful tool for political expression and societal change. This intersection not only broadens our understanding of governance and policy but also highlights the invaluable role of creativity in shaping political landscapes. As a student, engaging with these discussions has sparked my interest in how I might use my own artistic endeavors to influence public thought and action.

In a similar vein, the Athlete Coalition provides a platform for student-athletes and those passionate about sports to explore the relationship between athletics and public service. This coalition emphasizes that sports are not just games but can be a medium for instilling values of teamwork, resilience, and leadership that are essential in civic life. The dialogue here encourages us to think critically about the influence of athletes as role models and advocates for social causes, reminding us that our identities extend beyond the playing field.
