This stands in contrast to previous technology waves, which primarily affected manufacturing industries. Gen AI's strengths in language-based activities make it particularly suited for disrupting knowledge-based sectors.

Despite the anticipation surrounding gen AI, few companies seem fully prepared for its widespread use or the potential risks it may bring. In fact, respondents cite inaccuracy as a more frequent concern than cybersecurity and regulatory compliance. This highlights the need for organizations to address AI-related risks and develop strategies to mitigate them effectively.

Moving forward, the adoption of AI is expected to reshape many roles in the workforce. However, the general consensus is that more employees will be reskilled rather than separated. Nearly four in ten respondents expect more than 20% of their companies' workforces to undergo reskilling, while only 8% anticipate a decrease in workforce size by more than 20%. Service operations is the only function where a decrease in workforce size is expected, which aligns with the growing automation capabilities of gen AI.
