Intrinsic doesn’t mean useless. Learning French might have benefits later when you decide to travel or need to work with a client from France at your job. So they go off to school for two years, rack up tens of thousands of dollars in student debt, and discover that their newly minted credentials don’t actually get them much better job opportunities than before.
