About the Video

A rowing eight needs to prepare for every eventuality, especially racing on the Thames: but in 2012 Oxford and Cambridge were tested more than they could imagine, in the most dramatic Boat Race in modern memory. A swimmer on the racing course, a restart in choppy water, and then the shock of a broken oar blade pushed the Oxford crew to the limit: and in one case, beyond. Interviewed just five days after the race, the crew reflect on the lessons of the season, and its extraordinary closing day.

Featuring Olympian and Race Umpire Sir Matthew Pinsent. Additional footage courtesy of BBC Sport.
