It's interesting to note that there is little correlation between climate change denial and scientific literacy. However, there is a strong correlation between climate change denial and political affiliation. This reveals how tribes, whether political or otherwise, are driven by self-interest and tend to promote ideas and narratives that align with their survival.

Tribes are highly effective at promoting views that are not analytical or rational, and their loyal members often fail to realize this. Surprisingly, many professions, even seemingly unrelated ones, operate under the umbrella of understanding how people respond to incentives, how to solve their problems convincingly, and how to effectively work with those who are difficult to communicate with or hold different opinions.

As a CRM Growth Analyst and Business Intelligence professional, I have come to realize the importance of communication in providing investment advice. Reading about how doctors struggle to effectively communicate with patients, leading to non-compliance with treatment plans and resistance to lifestyle changes, has opened my eyes to the significance of communication in various fields.

Self-interest can lead people to believe and justify almost anything. However, in my experience, there are only a few truly sustainable sources of competitive advantage:

2. Show more empathy towards customers than the competition.
3. Communicate more effectively than the competition.
4. Be willing to fail more than the competition.
5. Expect more than the competition.

It is fascinating how people tend to believe what they have personally witnessed happening exponentially more than what they have read about happening to others, assuming they have even read about others at all. We are all biased towards our own personal stories, unable to fully comprehend the vastness and complexity of the world.

To overcome this bias, it is crucial to start with the assumption that everyone is innocently out of touch. By doing so, we become more open to exploring what is happening through various perspectives, rather than confining our understanding within the framework of our own limited experiences.

In the age of social media, it is easy to fall into the illusion that we truly know people. However, the truth is that most individuals are beyond our reach, and what we see are mere fragments of their lives. Our tendency is to evaluate others based on our own experiences, which are inherently limited by our own narrow viewpoints.
