Although my family is from Mauritius, where the official language is Creole, I do not speak it fluently. I have a limited understanding of Creole but would not attempt to converse in it. English is the language I am most comfortable with.

During my time in the forest with the Embera Indians, I had to learn some of their language. The Embera language is entirely different from the indo-European languages I was familiar with, so it was a challenging but rewarding experience to broaden my linguistic skills.
