often culture brings a certain amount of meaning and purpose

One of the signs of a great society is the diligence with which it passes culture from one generation to the next…When one generation no longer esteems its own heritage and fails to pass the torch to its children, it is saying in essence that the very foundational principles and experiences that make the society what it is are no longer valid.

Today, in our rejection of the religious stories – from creation to King David to the Christ – we have failed to pass on some of our culture that gave us meaning and purpose. Thus, our identity has diminished because of it.

That somewhere is the inside – of us, that is. In this vacuum of meaning and purpose there has immerged a redefinition of our identity.

In losing an identity that had some spiritual, faith-based, form and shape, we have become lost. And we have tried to search for a new identity.

Purpose has become defined through asserting our identity, not who gave us that identity and why God gave us it

we are experiencing a cultural collapse in the form of an “inward homelessness”.
