The Kerala High Court has ruled that the nudity of a woman's upper body should not always be regarded as sexual or obscene, while discharging a mother from a criminal case related to making a video of her children painting on her semi-nude body. The court noted that the video was made to challenge patriarchal notions and to spread a message against the over-sexualization of the female body, and cannot be regarded as obscene. The judgment also made notable observations regarding the double standards prevailing in society regarding male and female bodies.
