The Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) has reached an interim agreement with producers that includes rules for the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in films. The agreement states that producers must obtain written consent from performers before creating a digital avatar of them, and cannot use digital replicas of background actors instead of hiring them. Producers also need consent from both the actor and the union before using the replica in new photography or soundtrack. However, consent is not required for post-production activities like editing or noise reduction.
