This is the first time in Luke’s Gospel that he calls Jesus kyrios, “Lord.” This title translates the Old Testament title Adonai, meaning “my sovereign One,” “the One who rules over all things with all authority and all power.” The title that was reserved for God is now given to the Son of God, who is God incarnate.
