Myths reveal who we aspire to be, and warn us against what we may become.
The personal lesson that I take from the closing bookend of his life is: don’t wish too hard for things to be easy. Don’t wish too fondly for favorable circumstances. Because friction, financial demands, and being told no by people when you feel that you deserve a yes can serve to protect you and keep you sharp and focused.
