  • Instead of a “You should have said [fill in the blank],” which is what she would normally say, she instead said I should have made a bigger deal about it. Because I did say something — they just didn’t want to hear it.
  • Being a literal person can mean that saying something one way makes you think it will work, but it can also mean you don’t know another way of saying the same thing. Sometimes you have to say why you want cheese and why the pepperoni doesn’t work. Sometimes one way of saying it will not be enough of an explanation for somebody else to understand.
  • The year felt awful and I begged to switch schools. What I didn’t realize at the time was that if I had just waited till the following year the jerks would be out of my classroom. I feel that if I had stayed, I would have been fine. I was hurting and I asked to leave, then I transferred into a school that turned out to be a lot worse.
