saw what a lifetime of ministry might entail: shouldering heavy responsibilities, giving ourselves away to others, living far away from family, or possibly enduring criticism or defeat for the sake of the gospel.
If I’m not careful, the nature of this calling can create in me a sense of self-focus, self-pity, or isolation. Or I feel misunderstood and long for the rhythms of a “normal” life.
I had entered church planting with a firm faith, but because I didn’t closely guard my heart, because I listened to those little poisonous whispers, I forgot that God loved me and I doubted His provision.
we are to diligently maintain a tender soil for God’s love and purposes to grow, to continually pull out weeds of self-focus, and to allow God to produce fruit in and through us. This is, in essence, the charge of a church planting wife.
When God searches your heart, what does He see? Is it tender and pliable, purposefully set in the hands of the Father? Or is it hard and resentful, turned away from the One who loves you most? This is of utmost importance because, although your husband is out front, you are just as vital to the mission. Your heart is vital to the mission.
