The Black Sun tells us that there is value in slowing down and being patient when things seem dark and unclear. Do not run from such experiences, it says. Turn toward the difficult time. By just focusing on it and sticking with it we will discover power that radiates from it as surely as warming light radiates from the daytime sun.
The first sense that we might be something other than the person we thought we were is always unsettling. Ego insists that there are indeed experiences to fear, and ego justifies our defenses.
When a life crisis or impasse shakes things up, it weakens the defensive structures we have built up to repel aspects of being that, for whatever reason, we had unconsciously labeled as “not me.” With these defenses weakened, we find ourselves with the opportunity to live a part of ourselves that had been left behind.
The Accuser is the voice that tells us that we have failed, that we are inadequate, that we have made the wrong choices, that we are unworthy, or that we are not attractive
enough. This Accuser says that our energy for innovation and our readiness for change are impulses not to be trusted. The superego is the hyperdeveloped brake system for human initiative.
