To be God’s image-bearers means we are created for relationships.
Here, the word “beholding” means “to reflect as in a mirror.”1 That which we gaze upon is “the glory of the Lord.” As we gaze, we are transformed into his image. And the medium by which this transformation takes place—the mirror in which his glorious image is viewed—is the gospel.
While much could be said about this passage, the main point is that God’s glory, revealed in Jesus, is seen in the message of the gospel. The gospel is the mirror which reflects God’s glory.
