Highlights & Notes

People get excited when they’re surprised. Not when something big happens, or when they find the right answer.

What generates all the emotion is just how big the gap is between expectations and reality.

The real value of things like our eyesight or relationships or freedom can be hidden to us, because money is not changing hands.

Most human beings have an almost infinite capacity for taking things for granted.

I think it’s often hard to distinguish high expectations from motivation. Low expectations feels like giving up and minimizing your potential.

One, the realization that most good outcomes come from a minority of the actions you take, so it’s normal if most of what you do doesn’t work out.
