n the UK we don’t fear each other because we’re not armed and our kids don’t go on shooting sprees in schools or fear that anyone else will.

We don’t fear being audited or the government stealing our money because if you have a full time job in the UK all your tax issues are dealt with by a partnership between HMRC (Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs) and your employer in a system called PAYE (Pay As You Earn) and you’ll never have to fill out a tax return or any other kind of form. You can access the entire system online and see exactly what you’ve paid in tax, how much state pension you will receive on retirementetc., etc., etc., It’s all very transparent and easy. . The UK is not paradise, but honestly there is far less tension, far less aggression, far less trouble around racial issues than in the US.

We don’t fear our employer or losing our job because we are an EU member state and employment rights are guaranteed to all EU citizens. With or without Brexit these rights will persist.

This means you can’t just be summarily fired on a whim.

It also means “I’m going to need you to come in on Sunday” is an unthinkable joke idea. It means you’ll work 37.5 hours a week (and no more BY LAW). It means you must be given 5.6 weeks of fully paid holiday (vacation) every year and everybody takes them. It means as a woman you’ll get twelve months paid maternity leave and guess what - British (and pan European) business is still thriving while treating people like humans. We don’t fear losing our jobs or changing jobs because we don’t need the health insurance that came with the job (see next point)…
